FoodCorps

Groundwire Consulting Services in Action:

Chicken nuggets, deep-friend burritos, pizza, cheez-n-crackers, lunchables, yogurt in a tube—whether it’s hot or cold lunch—the poor diet of the American kid has resulted in the number of obese children tripling in the last 30 years. We were thrilled to help FoodCorps, a brand new national service program, scale their impact with our online tools and engagement strategies.

FoodCorps

Good for kids. Good for the planet.

FoodCorps is a new national service program on a mission to get kids off their over-processed, sugar-laden diets and into healthy food—an intervention that will hopefully extend into adulthood.

More than 1200 people applied to be members of the first class of FoodCorps and 50 people were chosen from that group. They will work in schools to address childhood obesity by building school gardens, educating children about healthy food options, and developing Farm to School programs.

Since the launch of the program, FoodCorps has reached 25,000 kids, started 137 garden projects on community sites, produced and donated over 4,000 lbs of garden produce and engaged over 245 new community volunteers.

We worked with FoodCorps to build a website that allows potential service members to learn more about joining FoodCorps and showcases current service members through videos and testimonials. Community leaders can learn more about becoming a FoodCorps site. Community members can sign up for email news and action opportunities and learn more about supporting this new national service program.

We integrated the new website with a customized Salesforce.com database that allows the FoodCorps team to record and utilize their engagement metrics to build relationships with the people who matter most to their mission: volunteers, donors, grantmakers, community members, site staff, and service members. We also set FoodCorps with an email blasting tool that integrates with their website and database to allow for easy segmenting and targeting within their campaigns.
